Fun & Free Family Event at Petco 3/21/15

Now in its seventh year, the San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering involves hundreds of businesses, corporations, sponsors, and nonprofits in a week-long celebration of STEM education in San Diego County. EXPO Day at Petco Park is the Festival’s culminating event with over 130 local businesses, corporations, and organizations providing interactive, hands-on activities showcasing STEM from all parts of Southern California. In 2014, more than 24,000 children, parents, and STEM enthusiasts attended EXPO Day, and over 60,000 people participated in festival week events. The event resounds excitement throughout the San Diego community and draws media attention.

EXPO Day will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at PETCO Park.  The Cost: FREE. Parking is only $5 at Padres Parkade.

Recommended for science lovers of all ages.

ROBOTS! SCIENCE! EXPLOSIONS! This is a mind-blowing day of hands-on science, technology, engineering and math exhibits and activities to budding K-12 science lovers, but science lovers of all ages are welcome. Come check out more than 130 local businesses, corporations, and organizations providing interactive, hands-on science, technology, engineering and math exhibits and activities. This event is FREE and open to the public. More than 24,000 people are expected to attend.

Live circle painting. This activity is great for families with little ones who may not be able to participate in activities designed for K-12 students. The circle painting will engage attendees of all ages in creating a colorful, STEM-themed mural! The San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum will also have a booth for toddlers and pre-schoolers.

The Home Run Challenge: Forms will be available at the Home Run Challenge Booth connected to info Booth 1 inside of Park at the Park, or you may download here.

Fireside Chats – A mini version of the TED Talk. Industry professionals will give a 10-15 minute talk on what they do in the industry, how they got there and any fun facts they want to add to make it interesting and engaging for the audience. It is an intimate setting of about a dozen chairs circled around a firepit. There will be a Festival volunteer there to introduce each speaker. After the speaking, there is time for the audience to engage in questions and conversation. Each speaker will have a sitting time of 30 minutes.

Summer Movie Express Starting June 9, 2015

Regal movie theaters just announced the list of summer movies for the summer of 2015, the $1 movies will run throughout the summer at select theaters. The movies are all rated PG, and are great for kids of all ages. It is only $1 per person to attend. All of the movies begin at 10 AM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the summer.  Every week there are two different movies playing for you to choose from. The start date for movie theaters vary, Regal has just released which theaters will host the Summer Movie Express and when the start date, see below.

The theaters for the 2015 Summer Movie Express that begin on June 9th are below:

Alhambra, Corona, El Dorado Hills, Fairfield, Jackson, Merced, Oceanside, Placerville, Roseville, San Jacinto, Sonora, Temecula, Visalia, and West Covina. Regal and Edwards are adding more theaters, we will update when they do.

Oceanside Easter Egg Hunt

The Annual Easter Egg Hunt for the City of Oceanside will once again be held at Buddy Todd park located at Mesa Drive & Parnassus Circle; Oceanside, California 92054. The Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is recommended  for children ages 4 – 11.

The Egg Hunt will take place on Saturday, April 4th, 2015. The event is sponsored by City of Oceanside Parks and Recreation and they ask that you bring your own basket or bag for the Egg Hunt. More information may be found by visiting the City of Oceanside’s website here.

The San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering (formerly known as the San Diego Science Festival) features a week of interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities and dynamic speakers to engage kids and families in science and engineering. This Saturday, March 14th, 2015 there over ten different events going on throughout San Diego County. The full list of the San Diego Festival for Science is below, next Saturday is the EXPO DAY at PETCO Park on the last of the Festival. All event are family friendly although there are suggested ages, and all events are FREE to attend with the exception of Birch Aquarium and Ruben H. Fleet Science Center.

San Diego County has earned a reputation as a thriving center of activity in science, biotech, engineering and medicine. However, research has shown that there is a shortage of students entering Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) fields. The San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering was created to get kids excited about STEM fields and demonstrate why science and engineering are important in their lives.
