Carlsbad Waterworks Free Swim Classes

by

Join us for a free swim play date at Waterworks Aquatics Swim School in Carlsbad! Waterworks Aquatics is offering the Moms & Dads of SoCal Savvy Mom a free swim and water safety class in a group setting that will also highlight the benefits of infant swimming.

With summer approaching I know my son needs a little refresher on his swimming strokes so I reached out to Waterworks and they were happy to set up a free class for you! Waterworks Aquatics is an indoor swim school that teaches children ages 3 months through adult how to swim. At Waterworks Aquatics you and your children will learn with a highly qualified team who will create a customized experience.

The Carlsbad facility offers 2 heated indoor pools and is located in the Bressi Ranch area. Why indoor pools if we are in sunny Southern California? With indoor pools there is no need to worry about if the pool will be too cold, and it also protects your children from the sun. The lap pool is 25 years in length and has 4 different lanes for swimming. The second pool is the teaching pool, and has been set up to help children learn to swim.

mommy and me swim classIn the Parent and Me swimming classes, also known as Mommy and Me or Daddy and Me, the instructor will facilitate the learning process between you and your child. In a fun, relaxed environment, skills are taught through repetition of songs and activities. The class emphasizes positive reinforcement and progress at a comfortable pace for you and your child.

Waterworks Carlsbad is offering a FREE Mommy and Me or Daddy and Me swim class to SoCal Savvy Mom readers! The class will be on May 11th at 11 A.M. for babies and children from 3 months old to three years old.

To register for this event, please send an email to alex@waterworksswim.com with the following information as spots are limited:

  • Your Phone Number
  • Your Child’s Name
  • Your Child’s Age

The only requirement is that all babies must wear a disposable and a reusable swim diaper. Waterworks Aquatics sells the “I-Play” brand and their prices are competitive.

This free event is for Brand New Families to Waterworks Aquatics and for those who have NOT attended a previous Preview Class.

You will then receive an email confirmation within 48 hours informing you if we were able to successfully sign you up for an opening slot. If not, we will inform you of other upcoming dates to attend. We plan to have another free Mommy and Me swim class in June, so if you do not get in for this class don’t worry.

Waterworks Aquatics offers three different classes in the Parent and Me program:

The Beginner class is an introductory class for new students. Instructors will explain skill sets and routines as well as assist parents with submersions, back floating, and movement in the water.
(ages 3 months to 3 years)

Independent submersions, breath control, and rolling to the back are three skills that are emphasized in the Intermediate class. Parents are encouraged to allow their children to become more independent in the water.
(ages 3 months to 3 years)

The Advanced class is designed to transition students from the Parent & Me classes to Private or Semi-Private classes. Instructors will work with each student during the class and help them develop the skills necessary to swim independently.

The gorgeous rose gold bracelet below is made by Maria Shireen, not only is it beautiful but it has a purpose too! What mom doesn’t wear a hair tie around her wrist from time to time? Let’s be honest well have all done it. Problem with doing that is it is a bit of an eyesore and leaves a dent in your wrist. Maria’s husband decided to make her a bracelet so she could bring fashion to her hair tie, and the bittersweet line was born. The bracelets come in gold, rose gold, and silver and come in different sizes for different size wrists. I have one and wear it all the time, another thing I love is all you have to do is change the hair tie color and it can match any outfit you have instantly. To see the full line of what Bittersweet has to offer check out their website here.

Legoland Ninjago World opening May 5th

by

IMG_8205

Legoland has announced the opening date of Ninjago World which will be May 5th! The new world will host a new ride with technology that is just been brought to North America! The first ride of its kind will open on May 5th, the ride name is Lego Ninjago – The Ride. There is no height requirement to ride but if children are under 48 inches they must be accompanied by an adult. Watch for: Fireballs! Lightning! Shockwaves! Ice! You control these elements to defeat the Great Devourer and earn ninja status. This is what you’ve been training for!

Because the ride is not open yet, I thought I would share some of my pictures from the media event a few weeks ago. The images below are of the actual ride you will sit in, and the icons that are throughout the ride.

There will also be Zane’s Temple Build for a NINJAGO activity. Zane, the Ninja of Ice, will want your help building a massive model of the old Ninjago Monastery. There is no height requirement for this activity. Kai’s Spinngers activity will be great for all wanting to master Spinjitzu! If you’re going to master Spinjitzu, you have to be able to spin! On to Cole’s Rock Climb activity. Rock climbing teaches balance, endurance. and patience. Do you have those qualities, give it a try with Cole! Jay’s Lighting Drill activity where your reflexes are tested. Find out if they are “lightning” fast!

Murder Mystery With a Side of Spaghetti

by

SoCal Savvy Mom’s Nicole Hughes planned the best birthday surprise a mystery-loving girl could have asked for, organizing a night of suspense, intrigue and … murder.

Nicole kept the details of our night under wraps, so I had no idea where we were going or what we were doing. Only that I was supposed to dress the part. The theme was 1950s, a fun and fairly easy costume to whip up.

Nic molly

When we arrived at our destination, The Old Spaghetti Factory in San Marcos, I was excited to see my friends had all embraced the theme as well. They looked great!

group

Once seated in the dining room, surrounded by costumed hosts and similarly dressed guests, it took just a few minutes to solve the first mystery of the night—we were at a murder mystery party!

For this real-life version of “Clue,” one of my favorite movies by the way, we had a super-sleuth crew consisting of Holly Bacca, Molly Burke, Kara Brem, Allison Gardner, Nicole Hughes and my sister Lynne Hakes. We had the brains and the beauty. The other teams didn’t stand a chance.

Cheerleaders

Dubbed “team cheerleaders” we were instructed to “be loud.” Five minutes in we were on our way to successfully annoying the rest of the partygoers. And oh yeah, solving the murder.

Hats off to our hosts, along with the amazing group of servers who kept the food and drinks flowing all night—and of course side-splitting laughs. Throughout the night we were all encouraged to mingle, ask questions and get to know the our fellow detectives in the room. But we didn’t want to get too friendly, they were our competition after all.

I think my favorite part of the night was when my dear friend Kara solved the who-dun-it after one quick round of questions. Smart cookie that one. We spent the rest of the evening trying to determine motive, because every good murder has a good back story.

Kara

With some dancing, fun games and other silliness blended in (my sister got to ham it up as one of the chosen sock-hop role-players) the night was a blast. And yes, I wasn’t kidding, our team did solve the case. We have the certificate to prove it.

Lynne

A great date night, girls’ night, or family night (though I’d recommend it for older kids who have the attention span to join the fun), The Murder Mystery Co. hosts public events at two locations, plus private parties. Check out the full details at MurderMysteryDinnerSanDiego.com.

Nancy Drew, Sherlock Holmes, Jessica Fletcher… all good detectives. But last night my girls and I put them all to shame.
