Rainy day schedule – go see McFarland USA

by

What is this wet stuff coming down from the sky? It can’t be rain, we live in Southern California! As we all know in SoCal we are in desperate need of rain, and this is the BIGGEST storm of 2015! While the rest of the country would laugh at our weatherman in describing this storm, we are wimps when it comes to weather. Since we will all be on a rainy day schedule this weekend I thought I would remind everyone of Disney’s newest movie McFarland USA. The movie received 5 stars and is perfect for most children as it is rated PG.

McFarland

The movie is base on the 1987 true story, that follows runners from McFarland, California a farm town located in Central California. The story is about a newcomer to the mostly Latino high school a coach named Jim White (Kevin Costner), he soon realizes the exceptional running ability the boys have. Between the family relationships and the relationships between the boys and coach something magical begins to happen. The cross-country team overcomes odds and goes all the way to the championship.

Disney’s “McFarland, USA” stars Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Morgan Saylor, Martha Higareda, Michael Aguero, Sergio Avelar, Hector Duran, Rafael Martinez, Johnny Ortiz, Carlos Pratts, Ramiro Rodriguez, Danny Mora, Valente Rodriguez, Vanessa Martinez, Chris Ellis and Diana Maria Riva, and is directed by Niki Caro with screenplay by Christopher Cleveland & Bettina Gilois and Grant Thompson, and story by Cleveland & Gilois. Gordon Gray and Mark Ciardi are producing, with Mario Iscovich and Mary Martin serving as executive producers. “McFarland, USA” and was first released February 20, 2015.

Whether you are going to the movies with your children or just your spouse McFarland USA is a perfect match to get out of this rainy weather!

Carlsbad Flower Fields opening day

Finally it is that time of year for the hills above the premium outlet mall to be full the beautiful 50 acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus.  Anyone who has grown up in Carlsbad as I have knows the season and love when it finally arrives.  It is the most amazing place to take pictures, and with the small price for entry it is worth every penny. The official opening day for The Flower Fields in Carlsbad is this Sunday, March 1st.

Flower Fields Carlsbad

The above picture is from a few years ago my son, niece and some friends children on the wagon ride, which is an additional charge but it is very worth it, the kids loved it. There are more fun things for kids to enjoy like the Sweet Pea Maze, which my mother-in-law and I got lost in but my son found his way out within a minute.  Don’t miss out on the fun Kids Day on March 29th, 2015. The Kid’s Day at The Flower Fields is a day full of fun activities for kids, including arts and crafts, face painting and Ronald McDonald! There also is a Sweet Pea Maze, Santa’s Playground and live music. Don’t miss this great day full of fun for kids! More information on kids day may be found by clicking here.

Legoland Water Park opens soon…must see tips!

by

It is that time of year again, finally…. Legoland Water Park will be open in a few weeks!  While I know most of the country is still going through extreme weather as it is still “winter” Southern California has experienced a warm winter.  Last week it was in the 80’s and we were at the beach a few days in a row. My son asked if we could go to Legoland Water Park but I had to explain sorry, it isn’t open yet, the opening date is on March 7th, 2015.

lego waterpark

Last year was the opening of the Lego Chima Water Park which is a brand new three-acre addition to the watermark.  The most exciting part of the new park is Lion Temple Wave Pool, which has depths from 0 to 5 feet and covers over 13,000 square feet.  To enter the wave pool you pass through a 18-foot high Lion Temple Arch build from over 260,000 LEGO bricks.  As a parent it is the only place in the park to be fully submersed in the water.  There is no other pool as deep as the wave pool.  I am a not very tall, I say I’m 5’3 but I’m probably closer to 5’1, but don’t tell.  Because of this I am almost under the water towards the back of the pool. I recommend putting your child into a life jacket, as it is free and you and your child will have more fun.

Another great new feature at the Chima Waterpark is Speedorz Arena, children can race against each other on one of eight different tracks. The Golden Chi Lego model is made of over 18k lego bricks.  It is hard to pull my son away from this area it is his favorite, we now have tons of the speedorz at home because of this, touché legoland touché.

Pirate Reef may be accessed from legoland and the water park, the highlight of pirate reef is the buccaneer boat which goes down a steep drop. Be aware you will get wet on this ride, actually let me rephrase you will be drenched! As in your socks and underwear will be wet, if you come in from the park and not the water park make sure it is a hot day. It will take all day for your clothes to dry otherwise. There are signs now leading up to the ride to let you know you will be getting wet.  On both the inside and the outside of the water park there is a family sized dryer for $5, we have used it and I would recommend to dry of your family if needed.
