Summer Movies in the Park @ San Diego – This week at Kearny Mesa Community Park the movie Dolphin Tale is playing, this movie is rated PG.  The movie will begin at 8 p.m.
Summer Movies in the Park @ San Diego – This week at 4S Ranch Sports Park the movie Kung Fu Panda 2 is playing, this movie is rated PG.  The movie will begin at 8 p.m.
Concert Series @ Coronado Ferry Landing – Saturday and Sundays throughout the summer enjoy free concerts at the Coronado Ferry Landing beginning at 2 p.m.  Saturday Blue Frog Band will perform.  For more information click here.

Sunday’s at Six Summer Concerts @ La Mesa – Visit Harry Griffen Park @ 9550 Milden Street for a free summer concert.  The concerts are from 6:00 p.m. –  7:00 p.m.  This week Trails and Rails (Music of the 30’s) will perform.  For more information click here.

Pat & Oscar’s, famous for the hot-fresh-hand-rolled bread sticks is the main reason most of us use to visit.  Don’t worry O’s American Kitchen is not changing the bread sticks!  There will be new and updated menu items with bolder flavors while still retaining the attributes  we have come to know and love.  The menu is still very similar and the prices are still very reasonable.  The family meal deal offering a half chicken, medium pizza, pasta bowl, medium salad, and of course the bread sticks is still a deal at under $30 for a family of four!  Of course if you are on the e-mail list you will receive coupons every now and then for the meal deal for only $24.99, which is pretty much a steal!

Opening Day at Del Mar July 18th!

Opening day at the Del Mar Races will be Wednesday July 18th this year.  

As in years past more than 45,000 race fans are expected to turn out for the most fashionable day at the races!  The day yes is about the horses… but more importantly the annual “One and Only Truly Fabulous Hats Contest” where entrants are judged on creativity and style.  Some will go all out for this contest,  I have seen actual live birds on a hat before!  All Hats Contest entrants receive two free admission passes for a future visit to the races.  Even if you don’t win you will be able to go to the races again for FREE!

Hats Categories:
1) Best Racing Theme
2) Funniest or Most Outrageous
3) Most Glamorous
4) Best Flowers/All Others
5) Best Fascinator (NEW)

Sign up between 11:30 am and 3:00 pm in the Plaza de Mexico located just inside the Stretch Run entrance gates. Be sure to watch the Hats Parade at 3:00 pm.

Wether you are going for the races, the hats or just the excitement Opening Day at the Del Mar Races will be incredible.

Be aware opening day is more expensive than pretty much any other day at the races.  Stretch run admission will be $10 on opening day and Clubhouse admission will be $20.

Kids at the Del Mar Racetrack

Kids at the racetrack?  Are you bringing your kids with you to the races this year?  We have taken our son to the races before and it was fine, he was only 2 months old though so it hardly counts.  There are tons of activities in the infield for kids on weekends called Family Fun Days.  Admission is FREE to children 17 and under and you can purchase an adult ticket as low as $6 (except on opening day).

Concerts in the Cove Tomorrow @ Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach!

Concerts at the Cove are free thanks to the City of Solana Beach and The Belly Up Tavern.  Enjoy concerts every Thursday from now until August 30, the concerts are from 6:00 – 7:45 P.M. at Fletcher Cove Park, in Solana Beach.  The city asks that you bring low-back beach chairs, or ground cover if you choose to have a picnic.  Please note there is no alcohol, tobacco, or pets allowed during concerts.  For more information click here.

TGIF Concerts in the Park @ Stagecoach Park in Carlsbad –  I love that you can pack snacks and wine to enjoy during the concert. The concerts are totally free not even a charge for parking.  I would recommend getting there as early as you can because parking does become an issue. Remember that everyone wants to see the performers, so plan to bring LOW-BACKED chairs only. Concerts on the Promenade @ Prestcott Promenade in El Cajon – The Concerts on the Promenade (formerly Concerts on the Green) take place at Prescott Promenade, a small park in downtown El Cajon.  Each Friday beginning at 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. from May through September. Crusin’ Grand @ Downtown Escondido– Cruisin’ Grand is called one of the best cruises in the country.
