Friday the 13th

by

Today is Friday the 13th of January, are you scared?   I have often wondered why people have phobias of this day.  There is no written evidence for Friday the 13th before the 19th century, and an actual name for the fear of Friday the 13th until the 1950’s. However people really are afraid of this day, it is said businesses lose millions of dollars today because people refrain from normal activities.  Not driving in a car, not going to work, and especially not getting on an airplane.  But what people really are afraid of is the unknown.  There is no evidence that more accidents happen today than any other day, in actuality there are less.  People are more careful today than others, there are less fires as well.  Why is Friday the 13th so scary?  Most think because the number 13 is an unlucky number and Friday an unlucky day.  The number 12 is considered a complete number, 12 months in a year, 12 hours in a day, and 12 Apostles of Jesus.  Also that the last supper was seated with 13 people, Jesus being the 13th and who died on a Friday.  I don’t have any fear of this day, my mother’s birthday is today and she was also born on a Friday.  If anything I look forward to celebrating my mother’s birthday on Friday the 13th.  Phobia or not hope you enjoy this beautiful day!
