Bringing kids to the Del Mar Racetrack

Kids at the racetrack?  Are you bringing your kids with you to the races this year?  We have taken our son to the races before and it was a fun family day. There are tons of activities in the infield for kids on weekends called Family Fun Days. Admission is FREE to children 17 and under and you can purchase an adult ticket as low as $6 (except on opening day). Sunday July 24th in the infield is a Family Fun Day with Webkinz a giveaway, there are 5 times as many activities on this day. The Del Mar Racetrack also has a camp for kids ages 5-12 for $24 per child.  Included is lunch, snacks, t-shirt and activities like mini golf, video games, inflatable jump house, air hockey and more.  This is a great option especially for out of town guests who can’t find a babysitter. Camp Del Mar opens at noon and closes 30 minutes after the last race.  Registration is always open and located at the Mission Tower building, no reservations required.  For more information on Camp Del Mar click here.

Summer Fun – Make Ice Cream in a bag

A couple of years ago on the last day of school we made ice cream in a bag with my son’s class.  The kids loved it, and it was surprisingly very simple to make.  If you have younger kids like we did (they were in kindergarten) you may need to help with the shaking.  I would recommend wearing a pair of gloves to avoid frostbite!  We loved making ice cream in a bag, it is so easy and delicious!

  1. 1/2 cup half & half
  2. 1 tablespoon sugar
  3. 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  4. 1 ziplock sandwich size bag (use a freezer bag)
  5. 1 ziplock gallon size bag (freezer bag works best)
  6. 3 cups crushed ice
  7. 1/3 cup rock salt
  1. Put first 3 ingredients in the smaller Ziplock bag and seal bag (Make sure it is closed). Put ice and rock salt in the larger bag and then add the filled small bag. Seal the large bag.
  2. Shake and squeeze bag until ice cream is thickened, about 5-10 minutes.
  3. Remove small bag, unseal, and eat out of the bag, poor into a bowl, or put on a cone.
  4. Add any toppings if you wish and enjoy!

Aviara Fireworks July 4, 2014

July 4th Celebrations at Aviara Park Hyatt in La Costa are in full swing this year!  The fireworks may been seen all around La Costa especially by the lagoon.  The firework display will begin at 9 PM, which is the same time as the La Costa Resort fireworks.

If you are a guest at the resort there is a festive Independence Day celebration.  Guests are invited to enjoy the Smokehouse Buffet in the Palm Courtyard, live entertainment from the Christopher Dale Trio, and a spectacular fireworks display at 9PM on July 4th.

It is no surprise we love Whole Foods, my husband has a serious addiction to the store.  His office is in the same building as the Encinitas store, which is nice because I can always ask him to pick something up before he gets home.  It is also nice because he always tells me ahead of time that something will be going on sale.  For instance he bought 3 cases of coconut water last week, yes that is how amazing the sale was!  Whole Foods is our favorite market because of so many things but who doesn’t like a sale on something you were going to buy anyway?

My favorite soap Whole Foods carries is without a doubt Dr. Bronner’s magic soaps!  The 18-1 hemp peppermint is my husband’s favorite and mine is the 18-1 hemp lavender.  It is called the 18-1 soap because of all the different ways you may use it!  The most common uses are to wash your face, body, and hair, however you may also use it to clean your vegetables or use it to clean your house. Dr. Bronner’s is a local company in Vista, California, who for over five generations have been making soap.  Dr. Bronner’s is family-owned and run to this day, all products are fair trade and certified organic.

Del Mar @ Del Mar Fairgrounds – The fireworks at the Del Mar Fairgrounds is always incredible, I love that you can sit on the beach and enjoy the fireworks.  The fairgrounds have a full line up of things to do on Independence Day including a Home Town Heros Parade at 7 PM.  The Firework show begins at 9 PM, the fair is open until midnight so you can still enjoy some rides after the fireworks if you wish.  For more information click here.

El Cajon @ Kennedy Park – This is a great family event to attend and it is totally FREE.  Enjoy carnival games, crafts, family games, skate park, kiddie train rides, live music and more.  The Firework show begins at 9 PM,the event activities begin at 1 PM.  For more information click here.

Ocean Beach @ OB Pier – The Firework show will begin at 9 PM, on the Ocean Beach pier.  The city asks if you do choose to roast marshmellows that you do NOT throw them.  It costs over $1,000 for the clean up and the city does not have the money for the clean up.  Please clean up after yourself!  For more information click here.

Oceanside @ Camp Pendleton – This event is for authorized patrons and their guests only.  It will be held at the Del Mar Beach Resort, which opens at 6 AM, Free family fun zone, live bands, and a fireworks show.  The Firework show begins at 9 PM, and runs until 9:30 PM, for more information click here.

Oceanside @ El Corazon – Please note The Fireworks show was on July 3 at 9 PM, not July 4th. The city of Oceanside is celebrating 126 of incorporation on July 3rd.  The annual parade will still be held on July 4th in the harbor, for more information click here.

Poway @ Old Poway Park – Bring your family and friends and celebrate our country’s independence “turn-of-the-twentieth-century-style” at An Old-fashioned Fourth of July.
